Feb 09, 2010 - Around the Campground

Seminole Creek

As we were drinking our coffee outside this AM one of the ladies camping down the road a ways walked by, and reminded us that there was coffee and donuts in the community room. She also urged us to attend the Bingo game Friday night, because "the more that show up, you know, the bigger the pot!" About that time Floyd strolled over, and I mentioned the coffee and donuts to him. We decided that it would be rude of us not to at least make an appearance, so off we went to see what kind of donuts they had. While we were there not being rude, we met a lady from Louisiana who was promising to bring gumbo to the potluck that’s apparently scheduled for Saturday night. We may attend that too, so as not to be rude.

Hopefully we’ll be able to keep up this breakneck pace for two weeks.

Today is supposed to be the warmest day of the week, but rain this afternoon. So we all decided to stick around the campground and check out the pool. When we got there, there were three ladies already immersed, doing water aerobics that mainly seemed to consist of hopping up and down in the water. As we talked, they never broke stride, but continued with their exercise regimen: up and down, up and down, up and down. It made me wish I had a giant mallet, because it was like having a conversation with a whack-a-mole console. Oh well, at least they didn’t spend their morning eating donuts. Like Floyd. Two of the three very nice ladies were seasonal residents, and filled us in on what was happening in the park. Strangely enough, they too urged us to attend the Bingo game Friday. I’m beginning to think the Bingo ladies smell fresh meat.

Right on schedule it started to rain in the early afternoon, let up briefly, then started coming down harder than ever. We spent the afternoon under the rPod’s dome with our friends, and about 5:00 we called the fish dinner because of rain. After throwing the Yellowtail Snapper in the freezer, we headed for town for dinner. I know this talk of rain isn’t going to generate much sympathy from you all back home for a couple of reasons: 1) Floyd’s son called on the way home from dinner to say it had been snowing nonstop since 3:00 AM the previous morning, and 2) Beth received a picture message on her phone from her sister showing all the snow that had accumulated in her yard since the storm started. I offered to take a cell phone picture of Beth standing under the palm trees so she could send it back to her sister, but she thought that might be pressing her luck.

I did manage to get a couple of photos of the campground today, and Beth and I agree that if you come here, the prime spots are in the ones that back up to the creek.

Prime spot, but too narrow for the big RVs.
